Our Adult and Kids Martial arts programs use the Gi as the traditional uniform. The Som consists of three pieces; the top is similar to a robe, the bottoms are a loose fitting trouser and the belt is tied over the Som  top.

Will I Lose Weight Doing Martial Arts?

Any strenuous activity can lead to weight loss. The different martial arts we provide encompass a variety of aerobic, anaerobic and strength conditioning elements.

Each class you train with us you will feel your core strengthen, cardiovascular capacity increase and your muscular endurance exceed any plateau that traditional exercise may not break.

You do not need to be in shape to do martial arts, let martial arts get YOU in shape.

Will I Get Hurt?

As with any activity, there is always a possibility of injury. In our academy’s history, we have not experienced any serious injuries because prior to learning techniques our instructors incorporate various stretch and warm-up exercises to prevent injuries. Students will learn to listen to their bodies FIRST, before pushing themselves to do any technique or exercise they may feel uncomfortable doing.

How Do I Earn Different Belt Ranks?

As each student progresses, a new belt rank is awarded during graduation by the Head Instructor of the academy.

Are There Competitions? Do I Have To Compete?

Dueling Dragons Martial Arts does not make any of our students compete unless they want to. Only about 15% of our total student base are actively competing. The rest are here to enjoy all the benefits that come from learning martial arts!

What Kind Of Martial Arts Do You Teach Kids?

When many parents think of martial arts, the first thing that comes to mind is Karate!

At Dueling Dragons Martial Arts, we combine Kung Fu, KKosho Kempo, Mauy thai, Silat, Arnis , Boxing, & Self-Defense to teach children ages 5 & up how to effectively defend themselves.

Our program has shown to be more effective than the neighborhood karate school!

How Are Classes Taught & Will My Child Earn A Belt Rank?

All Dueling Dragons Martial Arts classes are offered to students ages 5 & Up and are separated by ages and experience level. Classes are taught by using a proven curriculum system which allows students to master the basics and advance as they learn.

Students earn ranks as they progress in their program. Today many martial arts programs will “SELL” you a belt. Dueling Dragons Martial arts will only promote students who truly earn their rank. This is one of the most important parts of our teaching process.

Will My Child Get Hurt?

As with any activity, there is always a possibility of injury. In our academy’s history, we have not experienced any serious injuries because prior to learning techniques our instructors incorporate various stretch and warm-up exercises to prevent injuries.

Students are always monitored by one or more instructors to ensure a safe and fun learning environment.

I've had children come to my program for years without ever obtaining a single injury.

This is actually the case with most children.

Have children gotten injured in my martial arts class? Yes, some have. But the injuries were no different than those which kids who play baseball and other sports get.

In the words of a parent I recently spoke with, "The instructors pay attention to detail when it comes to safety."

From padded floors, to proper gear, to step-by- step instruction - we do everything in our power to ensure your child's safety. I can't guarantee your child won't be injured - but I can tell you that almost no children receive injuries in my program.

And that's because we take your child's safety very seriously.

What Will My Child Learn?

Dueling Dragons Martial Arts  Kids learn much more than just martial arts. Our kids become more assertive and learn from an early age how to deal with difficult situations and even bullying! Our program focuses on the following values:

Respect
Responsibility
Focus
Organization
Discipline
Confidence

Will martial arts make my kid physically aggressive?

Absolutely not! We don't teach kids how to kick and punch so they can go down the street and beat up the neighbor's kid.

Instead, we teach kids self-defense as a tool for personal growth and development.

Kids learn to treat others as they want to be treated. They learn to respect all living things - from their parents to pets.

Often, kids who were physically aggressive before they joined our class changed, and became non-physically-aggressive. So no, martial arts won't make your child physically aggressive!

What if my child's not athletic? Will they have a hard time?

Often, children who don't find success in team sports come to martial arts. And they love it.

That's because with martial arts you go at your own pace.

See, team sports actually harm the self-esteem of children who aren't very athletic. When they don't perform well, the other kids can be pretty nasty. And this can leave some serious scars on their self-esteem.

But with martial arts, they can't let anyone down. Everyone goes at their own pace. Some kids learn quicker than others - but the children who advance quickly are not valued more than the kids who advance slowly.

Everyone is greatly encouraged - regardless of his or her athletic level.

Will my child learn a talent that they can be proud of?

Many children find pride in being able to do "cool" things like dancing, juggling, singing, playing an instrument, etc., etc., etc.

I've seen many kids enter talent shows, and show off their martial arts skills. The crowd is blown away every time!

There's simply something fascinating and exciting about watching martial arts. And your child will take great pride in his abilities.

What age is appropriate for martial arts?

We have programs for kids who are 5 years old all the way to teenagers. And we even have programs for adults.

So to be honest - every age is appropriate. No child is too young or too old. We have a class that fits just right.

Will my child have fun? Will he want to stick with the program?

When parents take their kids to appointments - normally the parent has to run around and do everything in their power to get their children to the appointment on time.

"Hurry up!" they shout, "We'll be late!" (How many times have you said this?)

But with martial arts, something fascinating happens... Often the children are the ones yelling these things! They don't want to be late, and they never want to miss a class.

In fact, I know of many parents who use martial arts as an incentive to get chores done. If the kids are good, do their chores, and do their homework - they get martial arts as a reward.

That's because your child will have a ton of fun. He'll be laughing and smiling throughout the entire class. And because he'll constantly be setting and reaching goals - he'll want to stick with the program.

Is martial arts just for boys? Or can my girl take martial arts too?

Martial Arts is for everyone! All children benefit from martial arts because it works their growing bodies in new ways, lets kids vent pent up energy from the day (especially after a long day at school!), and helps them build positive body confidence.

We’ve seen wallflowers absolutely bloom in our classes as the children work together and cheer each other on!

Qualified instructors and staff make sure no one gets hurt and that all children learn in a positive, uplifting environment. No matter what their background or starting level is.
